James L Young

James Levi Young, 85, Yukon, OK passed away Saturday, March 26 at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born in Oklahoma City, on September 20, 1930 to Pearl Anna (Greenfield) and Richard Charles Young. After graduating from Shawnee High School, Jim joined the Navy on August 23, 1948. He proudly served in the Korean War as a Machinery Repairman Third Class on the U.S.S. Hector. He received an Honorable discharge from the Navy on August 18, 1952. He returned to Shawnee, where he met the love of his life, Isis Marie Effinger. They were married on March 30, 1953. In 1960, James moved his wife and three children to Oklahoma City to work for Western Electric. Jim had continued his military service in the Reserve. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Naval Reserve on April 19, 1966 and his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force Reserve on March 19, 1969. In 1970, Jim and Marie transferred to Alexander, AR where both worked for AT&T, until they retired in 1989 and moved back to Oklahoma, residing in Yukon. Jim and Marie loved to travel and had been all over the world. They continued to travel and see the United States after retiring. They kept active by volunteering in the Yukon community. Jim would pick up food every day from the local grocery stores for Yukon Sharing. In the 1990’s he helped build the Yukon Chisholm Trail Park which was one of his favorite places to spend time with his grandchildren and attending the Tribute to Veterans dinner and firework show each Fourth of July. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie; son William (Cheryl); grandchildren, Mark Maupin (Lelah), Shawna Ulrich (Kirk), Randi Young, and Jimmy Young; great grandchildren, Isaac Maupin and Henry James Ulrich; siblings Mary Jane Noss and Larry Young; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings William Max Young, Leona Jean Young, and Richard Charles Young, Jr; children, Susie Flenniken and James Alan Young. Graveside services will be 1:00pm, Wed., March 30, 2016 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
