Jana Kaye Moss born February 11, 1970 was a daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She was also a talented musician. She played piano beautifully and sang with the raspy, gravelly sound of Janis Joplin. Her appreciation for music has no boundaries and all who heard her play or sing were amazed at the genuine talent.
Early in Jana's life she learned along with Randy Moss (brother) and their dad (Roy Moss, deceased) how cancer could devastate a family. Jana's mother (Gayla Moss) at age 33 was diagnosed with cancer and passed away within three short weeks. No time to accept the diagnosis and no time for goodbyes.
A few years before at age 4 Jana herself had a tumor and it was successfully removed. However cancer was lurking in the background waiting to surface and so it did… five times in twelve years cancer played havoc with Jana’s life. She met every challenged with the spirit and attitude that those of us who have never had cancer can only imagine.
She always investigated medical diagnosis and treatments in order to make informed decisions about her health care and eventually her son’s (Devon, deceased). Jana was not one to be underestimated, she was intelligent decisive and not easily swayed once she’d done her research. She was no “pushover” and those of us who love her admire that quality.
Jana met the man of her dreams (Durand Davison) and acquired a family to boot. They Married in May, 2000 and Durand brought Dereck, Durand Jr., Heather and Dustin to the marriage. In 2001 Devon joined this large, boisterous bunch and in 2004 made his journey to meet Grandmother Gayla.
Today Durand will finish raising the two beautiful girls (Haven and Mellini) that he and Jana adopted in 2014. During Jana’s last days she was staying on top of the girls schedules and helping with homework. She was rock solid and loved family depending on her. She was also a fighter and accepting the journey’s end after years of battle did not come easily but it did come and her absence won’t come easily for those of us who love her.
