Jeffrey Scales, age 56, passed away on March 19, 2021 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was the husband of Charessia Scales. They were married on May 10, 2003, sharing 17 years of marriage together. Born in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Sonny and Dainty Scales. When Jeffrey was 9 years old, the family moved from Oklahoma City to Moore. Growing up he attended Moore Public Schools, except for the one year at Dibble in 1977.
In 1987, Jeffrey started his journey into the United States Navy where he worked onboard the USS Florida SSBN-728. After his separation from the Navy in 1993, Jeffrey enrolled at Oklahoma City Community College to pursue a career in nursing. Over the next several years, he worked at Norman Regional Hospital, then transferred to the Oklahoma City VA Hospital, where he would eventually retire out of in January of 2020.
Jeffrey was a member of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle, Oklahoma. He also enjoyed various hobbies, such as fishing, hunting, boats, nature, various projects he could build, ice hockey, 4 wheelers, and playing music on his guitar. Jeffrey was a very shy, and caring person. He had a great sense of humor, witty mind, and a heart to always lend a helping hand. He was a loving father and a devoted husband. Jeffrey was also a great Christian man, and treated everyone like they were his best friend. He loved his family, parents and children and loved doing things for them. Jeffrey will be truly missed by all that knew him.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Charessia Verleen (West) Scales; son Ryan Austin Scales; and daughter Lauren Ashley Scales; father William "Sonny" Nathan Scales and mother Dainty Lea (Grigsby) Scales; brother Lonny Dean Scales (Denise), brother-in-law Darrin West (Sherri) of Konawa, Oklahoma and sister Rebecca Manuel (Kerry) of Lone Grove, Oklahoma.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by father-in-law Vernon West and mother-in-law Karleen West.
Jeffrey also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Melissa, Dylan, and Madison Shirley; Miranda, Tony, and Eziekiel Kimble; Nathan Scales; Joshua and Kayla Manuel; Jason and Amanda Manuel; LaCretia and George Ward; Brittany and Brynlee West; Tyler West.
A visitation for Jeffrey will be held Monday, March 22, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service-South Chapel, 7720 South Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73159. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 313 Oklahoma 76, Newcastle, OK 73065. A burial will occur Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 500 SW 104th St, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73139.
Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy McVay, DeWayne Scales, Allen Scales, Michael Scales, Bobby Scales and Odell Fish.
