

He earned a master’s degree in business from the University of Central Oklahoma and spent his career in Civil Service. His work provided him the opportunity to travel the world, including Hawaii, Germany, and several other countries.
On October 4, 1968, John married the love of his life, Edith Marie (Ashley) Bettes. Together, they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage.
John made his home in Lawton, Oklahoma, for over 40 years before moving to Oklahoma City in his later years to be closer to family. He loved riding motorcycles on a sunny summer day and had a sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He was known for his logical thinking, and his ability to teach others to approach life with composure.
Above all, John was a devoted family man. He found his greatest happiness when surrounded by his loved ones and took pride in his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his daughters, Shelley Wallace (Jimmy) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Maleaha Rahill of West Frankfort, Illinois; his brother, William Lee Bettes (Patti Sue Peotter Bettes) of Sarasota, Florida; six grandchildren, Taylor Wallace, Mackenzie Wallace, Jessica Rahill, Eyan Rahill, Symon Wallace, and Luke Bettes; and five great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Leon W. and Mary June Bettes, and his beloved wife, Edith Marie Bettes.
