

John Leon Burgett, born December 31, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on November 24, 2025, in his lifelong hometown. He was the son of Clyde Leon Burgett and Angelina Marie Minotti Burgett, both of whom preceded him in death.
John graduated from Central High School in 1968 and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration on May 14, 1972. His interest in helping others and improving his community led him to further his education, and he later received his Certificate of Completion in Real Estate on November 24, 1999.
Those who knew John will always remember his caring heart and his deep, abiding love for animals. He touched the lives of many people through his kindness and generosity, and he found particular joy in caring for his feral cats—feeding them daily, speaking to them, and offering them the compassion he extended to all living beings.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Joe Burgett, and by his faithful companions, Jack and Jill. He is survived by his sister, Anna Louise Colbert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, along with three nieces and three nephews, each of whom will forever cherish his memory.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to John’s caregiver, Yetter “Penny” McNery, for her devoted care, support, and companionship.
John’s warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit enriched the lives of everyone who knew him. His memory will remain a blessing to all who loved him.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held Wednesday, December 10th at 1:00 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment following where John will be laid to rest with his parents.
