It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of SGT John S. Willi (Retired), a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and steadfast friend. John departed this world on March 10, 2026, at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, love, and service. He was born on October 16, 1955, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, to Arnold C. Willi and Charlotte Willi, who both preceded him in death. John's journey was one marked by courage, commitment, and a deep sense of duty to his family and country. He began his military career in the U.S. Navy in 1973, serving with honor until 1977. Driven by an enduring passion for service, John enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Sergeant over a distinguished 26-year career. His dedication to his nation was a hallmark of his character, and his contributions to the armed forces will not be forgotten. In 1990, John married the love of his life, Constance Leopold, in a unique and joyful ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland, a celebration that was made memorable by a surprise appearance by David Cassidy, courtesy of a local radio station contest. Together, John and Connie embarked on a beautiful journey, raising their beloved daughter, Laura M. Williamson. Their love story spanned 34 years until Connie's untimely passing in 2024. Their union was a testament to the power of love and the joy of shared adventures. After a fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic in the service, John transitioned to work with Halliburton as a General Contractor in Baghdad, Iraq, where he continued to demonstrate his commitment to excellence until his retirement in 2014. Throughout his life, John was known for his technical skill and his ability to tackle any challenge with determination and expertise. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of compassion and kindness, particularly towards animals. He never missed an opportunity to care for those in need, adopting numerous cats and dogs and actively participating in animal rescues. His love for animals was a reflection of his generous spirit, and he was a proud supporter of the ASPCA. John's life was enriched by the love of his family, including his cherished daughter Laura, his three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. John's legacy is carried forward in their lives, as they continue to embody the values of love, service, and kindness that he so deeply cherished. As we remember John, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and lasting impact. His generous spirit, unwavering dedication, and boundless love will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to the ASPCA, an organization close to his heart. As we honor his life, may we strive to emulate his compassion and dedication in our own lives. Rest in peace, dear John. Your legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of those you touched.
