She was born on June 21, 1944, in Union City, Oklahoma, to Harold W. Werner and Rose Krivanek Bliss. Karen grew up alongside her brothers, Ben and Lue, forming the foundation of a life centered on family, loyalty, and enduring love.
Karen graduated from Goodland High School in 1962 and went on to earn her degree from Fort Hays State University in 1982. She often reflected with pride on this achievement, having balanced her studies while raising three of her daughters—a testament to her determination, strength, and unwavering commitment to her family.
On August 22, 1987, Karen married Charlie Richmond. Together they shared thirteen years of love, companionship, and laughter until his passing on October 23, 2000. Throughout her life, Karen made her home in both Kansas and Oklahoma, building lasting friendships and leaving a meaningful impression wherever she went.
Karen’s greatest joy was her family. She found deep happiness in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing each moment spent with them. She was a strong and devoted woman who taught by example—showing those around her the importance of resilience, kindness, and being present for the people who matter most. She will be remembered as someone who was always there, offering love, guidance, and quiet strength.
She was a proud member of Job’s Daughters and the Order of the Eastern Star, organizations that reflected her values of service, community, and fellowship.
