

Leota June (King) Flaming was known to be loving, kind hearted, faithful servant and humorous. She often times put others needs before hers, and always looked for ways to help people in any matter she could. Leota loved her family dearly, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, and her family always looked forward to having Leota’s famous Mac-n-Cheese and peach cobbler. She was very proud of her family.
Leota was born in Alfalfa, Oklahoma on June 16, 1927 to Ralph Waldo Emerson King and Linda Opal King. She grew up in Alfalfa, where she excelled in basketball and was known for her skills around the surrounding communities. She graduated from Alfalfa High School in 1945.
She met the love of her life, Calvin Emery Flaming, at a skating rink in Craterville, Oklahoma and the rest is history. They were married on April 3, 1947 after Calvin returned from serving in the US Army during WWII. They moved to “Big City” where they made their home in Del City, OK for a few years, raising their children Sandy and Regie. They ended up moving to Choctaw, OK and later to Oklahoma City.
Leota and Calvin celebrated 73 years of marriage together before Calvin’s passing on April 12, 2020. They loved to travel all over the US, especially with their Okie Gadabouts RV Travel Club. For 16 years, Leota and Calvin would pack up during the Oklahoma winters go stay in warm weather of South Texas. They were members of the Meadowood Baptist Church in Midwest City, as well as Hilltop Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and over 20 years at First Moore Baptist Church. Leota was a very active member, as she sang in the choir, volunteered any opportunity she had as well as helped with their Sunday school class.
Leota leaves behind her 2 children, Sandy Tyner and Regie Flaming and his wife, Paula; grandchildren, Eric Tyner and Amanda, Amy Garretson and husband Randy, Jason Flaming and wife Lindsay, Jackie Malaske and husband Chris, Mike Butler and wife Kari, 10 great-grandchildren: Sydney, Noah, Rylee, Sarah, Emma Grace, London, Ryder, Hadley, Karlee and Maggie, brother Edward King, sister, Barbara Lee as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Emery Flaming, parents, Waldo and Opal King, brothers, Alfred King, Toby King and wife Loleta and sister, Evelyn Geer and husband Thurman, brother-in-law Dale Lee, daughter-in-law Becky Flaming and son-in-law Newt Tyner.
Come-and-go visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service, 7720 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73159. Funeral services celebrating the life of Leota will be held at First Moore Baptist Church on February 1, 2022 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow to Moore Cemetery in Moore, OK.
