A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 2pm at the Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church in OKC. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13th from 10am to 8pm at the funeral home at 7720 S. Penn. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8pm Tuesday evening.
Lois Cox was born on January 12, 1926 in Bokchito, Oklahoma and attended Blue High School in Brian County, Oklahoma. At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Leonard Winans . Lois and Leonard married in 1942, but Leonard went overseas during WWII so Lois moved back home with her parents in Bokchito, where she had their first child. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they relocated to San Angelo, Texas for several years. In 1954 they came back to Oklahoma, settling in Oklahoma City.
Lois was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, reading, traveling, and writing poetry. She loved to decorate houses and refurbish old furniture. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Lois was a charter member of Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church where she had several roles over the years, from singing duets with her husband on Sunday morning to planning Christmas parties to teaching Sunday school. Lois and Leonard spent more than seven decades at Southern Oaks serving their Lord and church family. Lois was feisty and had a great sense of humor. She always went out of her way to brighten the lives of those around her with a story or joke.
The family would like to thank Stacy and Leisha with Integris Hospice for their kindness and care during this difficult time.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents James and Lela Cox; a son Lenny Winans; 14 siblings. She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Leonard Winans; two children: Jim Winans and wife Sandy, and Diana Ward and husband Terry; four grandchildren: Kelli Winans, Ashli Winans, Craig Casey, and Natalie Winans; three great grandchildren: Chloe Gill, Katie Gill, and Mollie Winans; a brother James Clyde Cox, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members.
