

He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on 13 Aug 1930, to Talmage T. Summers of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Jessie Lee Fuller of Booneville, Arkansas. He attended Riverside school in Oklahoma City, OK; Mt. Alburn, J.L. Long, & W. Wilson Schools in Dallas, TX; and Rose State College in Midwest City, OK.
He spent his early years as a shoeshine boy in Oklahoma City, and after moving to Dallas with his mother and two of his brothers (Joseph & John), he joined the US Army Air Corps on 12 Feb 1947, and did his basic training at Ft. Sill and Tinker Field, OK. He, then, served as a weather forecaster for the occupational forces in Nagoya, Japan. He was deployed to Korea in Nov 1950, as a US Air Force Forward Weather Observer during the Korean War.
He was transferred to Bushy Park & High Wycombe, England in 1952, and married his bride, Vincenza “Enza” Tufano Miles, of Naples, Italy, on 5 Nov 1955. They were later stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska from 1959-60, Orly Field, France, 1960-61, Ramstein AB, Germany 1961- 64, England AFB, Louisiana, 1964-65, and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, where Staff Sgt Summers retired from service in March 1967.
After retirement, he worked several jobs, such as: sacking groceries at the commissary, a Pinkerton guard (for about a week); and a furniture salesman at JA Brown in Oklahoma City for a few months; a student hairdresser (until he burned several perms); a weather forecaster for the Dept of Commerce Weather Bureau at Will Rogers Air Port, Oklahoma City, a weather forecaster at Max Westheimer Field in Norman, OK, a weather forecaster at Naval Air Station, San Diego, California and NAS Corpus Christi, TX; before settling on a civil service job working on avionic instruments with the USAF on Tinker AFB, OK, from which he retired in 1987.
He was a shop steward and member of the AFGE Local 916 Executive Board; coached Little League Baseball; avid boxing fan; often traveled overseas with his wife to visit family; enjoyed going to casinos and horse races with his wife; taking his sons horseback riding, working out at the base gym, spending time with grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered as a devoted, generous, kind, fun-loving, humorous, patriotic, intelligent, outspoken, loveable, and larger than life character.
He is preceded in death by his bride of 64 years, “Enza” Tufano; his parents, Talmage & Jessie; brother, Herman Choate & wife Oleta; brother, James Fuller Choate; brother, Joseph & wife Aldora; and brother, John H. & wife Marie; and niece, Tina.
He is survived in death by his sons: David J. Miles & wife, Debra; Anthony “Buddy” L. & wife, Lisa; John F. & wife, Patti; and Robert G. & wife, Michele. Nieces: Vonn Robinson-Cragg and Gwen & husband, Joe Thompson. Grandchildren: David C. Miles & fiancée Desiree; Chris & Christi Gaines; Ben & Erica Gaines; Joshua & wife, Kalynda Summers, Jacob Summers, Teresa Summers & fiancé Dominic; Edward & wife, Emily Russell, Joseph, & wife, Jamie Russell, Rosa Summers, Dominic Summers, and Anna Summers; Corey Summers, Peyton & husband, Chris Reeves, and Jordan Summers. Great-Grandchildren: Chloe, Carter, Haven, Becca, Wyatt, Avonlea, Rylee, Kaylee, Brody, Presley, Liam, Harper, Oliver, Zayden, & Lakyn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at the Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK with Interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK.
