Mary Ann Charles went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2026 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert C. (“Bob”); her parents, Hallie Tanner Dunnam and Thomas Norman Dunnam; her sister and brother in law, Norma Lee and Ken Minter; and her brother, Thomas Norman Dunnam Jr.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lisa Franklin (Doug) and Linda Must (Brian); her grandchildren, Elizabeth Franklin Gilbert (Patrick), Caroline Franklin Pinkston (Philip), Charlie Must (Sara), Blake Must (Morgan), and Will Must (Ria); great grandchildren Teddy and Beau Must, as well as sister in law, Margaret and many nieces and nephews. “Mae Mae” adored her grandchildren and was so proud of them.
Born in Houston on Nov. 5, 1933, and raised in the nearby town of Cleveland, Texas, Mary Ann earned her degree in education from the University of Texas. She began her career teaching first grade in Midland, where she met Bob. After they married, she devoted herself fully to raising their family—a role she embraced with love and care. Their journey took them to Houston, Bartlesville, and Borger before they settled in Tulsa in 1974. In 2016, Mary Ann and Bob moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to their daughter.
Mary Ann found her greatest joy in time spent with those she loved—especially Christmas gatherings in Cleveland and family vacations alongside her sister’s family. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she held a deep desire to pass her Christian faith on to her children and grandchildren. She had a love for antiques, bridge club, and the simple pleasure of being with family. Known for her beautiful smile and gracious Southern charm, Mary Ann was never without her purse, jewelry, and signature red lipstick—a practice she continued during her time at Epworth Villa.
We will dearly miss our mother and grandmother, Mae Mae. A private graveside service will be held with family to lovingly remember her.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Mary Ann’s memory are invited to make a donation to Epworth Villa Assisted Living/Memory Care, 14901 N. Penn Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134.
