Mildred Alice Hurt

Mildred Alice Justice Hurt of Yukon, OK passed away November 24, 2010 at the age of 103. When anyone would ask her her age she would drop the hundred and tell everyone she was starting over. Mildred was born November 16, 1907 in Geary, OK to Ezra Alon Justice and Mary Annie Ames Justice. Mildred has been known to her family and friends as a statehood baby since she was only about an hour younger than our great state of Oklahoma, which she referred to as her state. She felt quite honored to be recognized by various state dignitaries during statehood celebrations. Mildred married Harmon Fillmore Hurt December 28, 1927, in Watonga, OK. They visited various cities throughout Oklahoma as he managed road construction, while she was working with the payroll for Steelman Construction Company until her retirement. Mildred enjoyed traveling, sewing, and square dancing as well as being an avid supporter to her grandchildren and great grand-children in their various agricultural, sporting, dancing and band activities. She was very pleased with the number of states she visited by tour bus after her retirement. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Harmon, five sisters and three brothers. Mildred is survived by a daughter Carmen Raines and husband Jim of Yukon, OK, a Grandson James (Sparky) III and wife Lesia Raines of Yukon, a Granddaughter Jamie and husband Sam Evans of Norman, five Great-Grandchildren, Holly Raines Martin and husband Mike of Ft. Smith, AR, Jed Raines of Yukon, Katie Raines of Yukon, Meaghan Evans Hall and husband Chris of Midland, TX, David Evans of Norman, two Great-great Grandchildren Zoe and Seth Martin of Ft. Smith, AR. She is also survived by a sister Mary May Gamble of Oklahoma City and many nieces and nephews whom she was very fond. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
