Paul was the patriarch of the Sheline family. He deeply loved his family, church, and God, whom he served faithfully throughout his life. Paul Richard Sheline, 95, of Oklahoma City, died peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He was born in Tulsa, OK, in 1929 to Orville and Gladys Sheline. Growing up, Paul’s family lived in multiple states, as his dad, a carpenter, followed work. In the third grade alone, he attended thirteen different schools. In one year he was enrolled in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade due to the different states that he lived in. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School before studying Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK.
Paul met the love of his life, Anita Munn, in 1948 at a church softball game in Tulsa. While in college Paul would catch the bus, ride his Vespa, or hitchhike back to Tulsa to see Anita on the weekends. The two were married on July 21, 1950, and were married just shy of 75 years. They welcomed their first son, Stephen Paul, in August 1951 and their second son, David Lee, in May 1955. As a family, they enjoyed spending time at Lake Tenkiller scuba diving and water skiing. Paul and Anita could be found in their 80s driving across the lake on their wave runners.
For fifty years he has been known as “Grandpa with the boat” to his grandchildren Michael Paul, Kimberlee Erin, and Kyle David. Paul and Anita loved taking their three grandkids all over the United States hitting all of the state capitols and Major League Baseball parks along the way. Grandpa Paul was a huge supporter of all of the grandkid's sporting endeavors. Later on, he was an even bigger supporter of his four great-grandchildren’s sporting events. His four great-grandchildren are Maddox, Derek, Grayson, and Brooke.
Paul was a member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church for 73 and a half years. In his seventy years of teaching, he taught Sunday School from the youngest to the oldest. He also served as a deacon of the church, coached church basketball teams, and was a Whiz Kids Tutor. He was a mentor and inspiration to many church members as he faithfully served his church. Paul and Anita made lifelong friendships with many other couples at Portland Avenue.
Paul started his career working for OG&E in 1951 and later branched out as a representative for many lighting manufacturing companies. In the last ten years of his career, he returned to OG&E as a Senior Lighting Consultant.
After retirement, Paul and Anita lived at their house at Lake Tenkiller every other week. While at the lake, they attended Blackgum Baptist Church and Portland Avenue Baptist Church when in Oklahoma City, never missing a Sunday or Wednesday service.
Paul will always be remembered as a faithful, consistent, and dedicated church member, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family fiercely and left a legacy of faith for them. We couldn’t have asked for a better example to lead our family and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Gladys Sheline, sister Laura, and his son Stephen Sheline. He is survived by his wife of nearly 75 years Anita Sheline of Oklahoma City, son David Sheline and wife Debi of Yukon, grandson Mike Sheline and wife Jennifer of Cashion, granddaughter Kim Mullican and husband Tony of Oklahoma City, grandson Kyle Sheline of Los Angeles, CA, great-grandchildren Maddox and Grayson Mullican of Oklahoma City, and Derek and Brooke Sheline of Cashion.
Viewing is Monday, March 24 at Hahn-Cooke/Street & Draper from 4:00-8:00 pm, and the Funeral Service is Wednesday, March 26 at Portland Avenue Baptist Church at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers donations to Portland Avenue Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated.
