Born on June 17, 1960, and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeff dedicated his life to service, integrity, and family. He proudly served as an Oklahoma City Police Officer for 29 years. Over the 29 years Jeff served in multiple divisions – including traffic, patrol, the tactical team as a sharpshooter, and the K-9 unit with his faithful dog, King. For the last 11 of those years, he served from the sky as a helicopter pilot with the department’s Air Support Unit. He loved his work deeply – not just for the duty, but for the purpose it gave him.
Jeff was loyal, kind, and strong, with a sharp intelligence and a dry sense of humor that kept family and friends around him laughing and smiling. He had a warm heart and a quiet strength that made him both a rock and a light for the people who loved him most. He gave his life for others, not just as a police officer, but because that was the kind of man he was.
Outside of his uniform, Jeff found joy in hunting, building things with his hands, tending to his garden full of fresh herbs and vegetables, grilling for his family, riding his motorcycle, spending time at the lake with his family, going to and watching baseball games, completing word puzzles, enjoying simple tasks in life like mowing the yard, and spending quality time with his loving wife, Sherry at their home where they resided in Edmond.
He was a devoted husband to Sherry Richey, a proud and loving father to his daughter, Tara Richey, and stepfather to Levi Monarch. He adored his granddaughter, Jaxyn Richey, who knew him as “Papa.” Jeff is also survived by his brother Steve Richey, and wife Jennifer, nieces Kristin Melton and Jessica Richey; and nephew Nikolas Richey; and Dana Nursick, who was his chosen sister, along with many friends and colleagues who will forever miss his wisdom, humor, warm hugs, and steady presence.
His family invites those who knew and loved him to come together and celebrate Jeff’s incredible life journey.
Jeff will be remembered not only for the badge he wore with honor, but for the love he gave, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Visitation and viewing will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, located at 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 8, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Services to honor Phillip Jeffrey Richey's life will be held on Thursday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Council Road Baptist Church in Bethany.
