The family and friends of Phyllis Ann Baird are wrought with grief as we announce her passing. Phyllis Baird was born in Blytheville, Arkansas. She spent her childhood working in the cotton fields and going to school. She then married James Hicks and had three children. Along her journey, she met her soulmate Captain Arthur Baird, whom she would marry and remain married to for the rest of her life. They had two sons. She was a devoted mother, confidant, wife, friend and enjoyed a successful real estate career. In addition she was a wonderful caregiver to her beloved mother Helen. Her warmth and hospitality touched everyone who knew her. In fact, many of her children’s friends would unofficially “adopt” her as their mother! It was never rare to find "new additions" at her house for the holidays as she welcomed everyone into her home and always went out of her way to be loving and welcoming. She was deeply loved by her immediate family and a host of other relatives, friends and acquaintances, most especially those from her home state of Arkansas. Those who loved her feel her loss deeply and are so grateful to God to have experienced her unique ability to connect and touch their very souls. The family would like to thank the multitude of medical staff for their kindness and tender care.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Arthur Baird, with whom she shared 40 years of love; their five children: Allen Hicks, Danita Hayes and husband Bob, Shavonda Pickett and wife Gina, Timothy Baird and Joseph Baird; her three grandchildren: Johnathan Hicks, Erick Worrell and wife Kim, and Annie Hicks, mother of her one great-grandchild: Lillian Sharrock; her loving brothers Robert White and wife Nancy, and David Presson and wife Phyllis; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by both parents.
The family will be receiving visitation on October 3, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the brain cancer research underway at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, 100 N. Charles Street, One Charles Center, Suite 416, Baltimore, Maryland, 21201. Thank you.
