OCTOBER 29,1929 -APRIL 28, 2010
Well, Dad finally met His maker on April 28, 2010 and for those that knew him well, knew that
he had weathered many a storm. In the early years Dad was a worker and he and his work never
seemed to slow down. He created numerous companies: Barbour Energy Corporation (Energy
Company), The Grotto, The Zoo and The Circus (Restaurants) and Canterbury Schools (Nursery
Schools), to name but a few. But beyond running Barbour Energy and his other organizations,
Dad's life was OU, then OU and lastly OU. Passionate doesn't even come close to describe,
but it would be a start ...and when he wasn't able to go to Norman to watch OU play, he would
keep up with them on TV and believe me you didn't want to be around him when they were
losing. His other love was his dogs Donna, his loyal companion of many years and Norman,
who was the friendliest klutzy dog probably in the entire world along with the families of
squirrels and birds who visited his house and never had to worry or wait for their meal because
Dad would always put out about 100 pounds of bird seed each day. Lately though, he liked to do
puzzles, glue them, get them framed and then with Tommy's help, take them to different
nursing homes for needy individuals. In all, he gifted probably 500 or more pictures. We will
all miss Dad terribly but we know we will see his smiling, cheery face when he greets us into
heaven. Dad is survived by his daughter Cynthia Lasater and her children: Kristen Lasater and
her children Lyndsie, Carter & Collin; Kevin Lasater and Alison, his wife and their baby Eli;
Kylee Lasater Arthur and her husband Adam and their children Megan and Kinley; Katie Lasater
Johnson and her husband Will and their baby Makayla and Kurtis Lasater and Tarin his wife;
his sons Robert W. Barbour, Jr. and Carolyn, his wife and their children Alex and Austin and J.
Wayne Barbour and his wife Laurie and their children and step children: John Barbour;
Christopher Barbour; Brandy Goodwin and her husband Dillon and Chase Lentz. In addition,
Dad would surely want to mention his step children: Mike Stewart and his wife Tina and their
children Crystal and Michael; Karen Wilkins, her children Bobby and Stephanie (preceding in
death) and her husband Russ and finally, Kathleen Kaminski and her husband Stan and their two
children Olivia and Gwen, whom he all loved deeply. Further, the family would personally like
to thank Tommy McConnell, Dad's best friend, caregiver plus a whole lot more. Tommy was
with him in the thick of it for the last five years and never gave up on him. Finally, we would all
like to thank the staff at Baptist Integris who did an outstanding job in making our Dad's last
days as comfortable as possible. Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
