Sarah Rebecca Chapman Clay was born on August 2, 1927 to Albert Chapman, Sr. and Alice Rebecca Young. At early dawn, on June 29, 2017, while the dew was still glistening on the green, Sarah joyously and peacefully received her final call to duty from her Master at the home of her daughter in Oklahoma City, Ok. She was greeted by two daughters, Margaret and Marva. She was 89.
Awaiting her arrival were her siblings, Catherine, Albert, Jr., Ernest, Sr. Dorothy, Charles, James, Sr., John, Sr., George, Sr., Arthur, Sr., and Daniel, Sr.
Sarah opened the door of her heart to Jesus and received Him as her personal Savior and Lord at an early age. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Port Deposit, Md. where she served on various boards and sang on the choir. Her service there was genuine and true.
Sarah received her education in the Cecil County Public Schools. This led her to be a Substitute Teacher. She received specialized training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and was employed at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center and at the VA Hospital, Perry Point, Md. There she performed both EEG and EKG's until her retirement. She was also a member of the Toastmasters. She received many commendations for her uncompromising work ethics.
Retirement took Sarah to Oklahoma. She enjoyed flying back and forth to Maryland for visits. She enjoyed reading, writing, working crossword puzzles, the Game Shows on TV, listening to her gospel music, and don't forget-GOOD PREACHING. She also enjoyed going to the Poconos with her sister Catherine and her brother-in-law Roy. Her greatest accomplishment is her family. After Jesus, they were definitely next in line. Always, the proud mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt, cousin. She always had time for others as well. Not a showy person, she lived as she believed of God. Her final trumpet sound to the masses was "GET TO KNOW JESUS FOR YOURSELF!" AMEN.
Sarah leaves to complete their run, her children, Jacquelyn, Ernest (Gwener), Cheryl, Marion (Gloria), Dennis (Melanie) and Arthur, 2 brothers, Richard, Sr. (Catherine), and William, Sr. (Helen). She is blessed to have 30 grand-children, 52 great -grands, and 31 great-great grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)
