It requires a lot of adjectives to begin to describe Mom - highly intelligent, funny, very generous, high energy, painting, optimistic, bridge-playing, nutty (at times, particularly with the daily loss of her car keys and other items, a trait she ‘generously’ passed to one or two of her children), typer of late night papers, lover of her husband and children and friends, and of her grandchildren even more.
Most importantly, she loves our Father and our Lord, and lived with great faith and courage. As one example, years ago she was diagnosed with kidney cancer and told that it was inoperable and untreatable. When telling their Sunday school class about it, Dad, the hardened trial lawyer, couldn’t get through the message because of emotion. Mom promptly, matter of factly, stood up, said she had cancer, said she’d get treatment and it would be ok, and sat down. And, with God’s help, she was right!
Mom is survived by the many who love her and will be joining her soon, including her daughters Anne and Mary Jane and their husbands Chuck Covington and Mike Lauderdale, by her son Gary and his wife Cindy, by her grandchildren and their spouses Katherine, Justin, Luke, Jessica, Bennett, Maddy, Davis, Lyvia, Charlie, Channing and Riley, by her Bible Study Fellowship family, by her many friends, and by her lovely Melinda Jackson.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held graveside at Rose Hill Burial Park on Wednesday July 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
As beautifully recited and discussed at Dad’s funeral a few years back, we again turn to and refer you to the Lord’s eloquent words in John 14:1-7.
Soli Deo Gloria.
