Shirley Diane Germany (better known as “Diann”), returned to her heavenly home on October 8, 2019 after a long valiant battle of illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God, our Lord Savior, supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Diann was born to the late Dan Germany and Lucille Hampton in Miami-Dade, Florida on December 23, 1957. She was immersed in the christen community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. In 1980, she moved to Oklahoma to pursue her education and nursing career. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma. She became a Licensed Practical nurse at University Presbyterian hospital formerly known as OU Medical Center. She committed her love of caring for others by providing her skills at local nursing homes in Oklahoma City. Once she retired from Nursing, she gave back to the community as a foster parent, a substitute teacher, and later being elected and gave years of service on the board of education for Crooked Oaks school district. She faithfully served her community for over 10 years.
Diann was blessed with a loving and nurturing family. In 1983, Shirley was introduced to a charming, and handsome man by the name of Alfred Lee Smith of Oklahoma City. Due to Shirley’s illness, it was said by her physician that she would not be able to carry a child to full-term. Shirley’s belief in our God told her otherwise. With continued loving support, Alfred Lee Smith and Shirley Diann Germany gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Rain’a L. Germany (known as Raina Arnold today) born August 1985. Diann was a great Servant for the Lord. She was soft spoken, but her eyes could tell it all. She always provided time for others; she opened her home to everyone. Shirley was a strong advocate for children. She believed a child should never be hungry, unloved, unnurtured, or felt unsafe. She was “Santa Claus’ every day to her grandchildren.
Diann is survived by her only daughter (child), Raina Arnold, Son in law Duron Arnold; twin Sister, Sharon Germany; grandchildren, Beautifull and Lovely; her nephews, Kenta, Kelvin (Troy), Tavaris, Derrek and Tony; her only love, Alfred Smith, and a host of friends.
