Souad “Sue” Maalouf Karim passed on June 26, 2014 unto life eternal with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Souad was born in Damascus, Syria, on October 31, the year being a guarded secret and irrelevant to her. She adhered to the philosophy that a lady never tells her age. Sue, as she was often called, was one of eight children born to her parents, the late Dib and Mary Maalouf. Souad was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Father Elias George Karim, a brother and four sisters. She is survived by her four sons, Karim and wife Alexis, Andrew and wife Jana, Daniel and wife Dana, and Gregory and wife Laura; 12 grandchildren, one brother, one sister, and several nieces and nephews. Souad was devoted to her husband and raising four sons. She was the consummate cook, hostess and organizer, and was never late for anything. Before marriage, she worked in Damascus as a ground stewardess for BOAC and Scandinavian Airways. Always giving of herself, Souad engaged in a variety of outside interests, which included teaching adult cooking classes at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, helping host international exhibitors at the Oklahoma State Fair as a member of the Sundowners Club, and was a long-time member of the MacDowell Club of Allied Arts, having twice served as its president. She was a member of St. Ann’s Guild and served as a volunteer in the gift shop and labor and delivery at Mercy Hospital for over 26 years. To say she will be deeply missed is an understatement. The lives she touched and the legacy she has left will be everlasting.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1 at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, NW 63rd and Pennsylvania. Family will greet friends for visitation on Monday, June 30 from 2pm-4pm at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. Memorial contributions may be made to All Souls’ Episcopal Church.
