

Wallace Smith was born on April 15, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Francis and Helen Smith. He died peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his home in Oklahoma City surrounded by his loved ones. He attended school in Wisconsin, and after graduating in 1938, he joined the National Guard, later transferring to the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Major. While stationed at Will Rogers Air Force Base, he met his future wife of 57 years, Virginia Ball. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors Degree in 1949, began his long career with the Oklahoma City Public Schools System, and continued his studies attaining his Doctorates from the University of Oklahoma in 1964. Dr. Wallace retired from OKC Public Schools as Assistant Superintendent in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rose Smith. Wallace is survived by his son, Kevin and his wife, Mary Allen Smith, their four children, William, Mary Kevan, Maynard, and Christopher; he is also survived by his daughter, Julie, her husband Roger Wiggerman, and her children and their husbands, Alicia & Robert Clark and Alaina & Brandon Tyler, and six great grandchildren. Also survived by his Niece, Sandy, her husband Dennis Welch, and their three children Scott, Tyler and Tracey. Wallace's many interests included photography, crossword puzzles, reading & music, volunteering at the church, and most of all, FOOTBALL! A celebration of his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel located at 1001 NW 25th Street in Oklahoma City on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:30.
