William Edgar Mathews Sr., age 82, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021. William was born February 3, 1939 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Louise (Kent) Mathews and Philip William Mathews.
Growing up, William attended and graduated from the Chilocco Indian School in Chilocco, Oklahoma. After high school, William continued his education at Oklahoma City University, obtaining a Bachelor's and Master's degree. He was a long time member of the South Walker Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and served in the National Guard for 8 years.
William is survived by his 9 siblings: Gilbert Mathews, Philip Mathews, Phyllis Soxie, Starry Clark, DeLoyce Archie, Sandra Harjo, Nedra Mathews, Linda LeRoy and Nannie Sewell.
William was preceded in death by father Philip William Mathews and mother Louise (Kent) Mathews.
A graveside service for William will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Iowa Indian Cemetery, Union Road, Perkins, OK.
