At the age of 81, Donald Lee Schwenk peacefully fell asleep in the Lord at home on January 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Don longed to be with Jesus, and we take comfort knowing he is now reunited with family and friends who went before him.
Don married the love of his life, Carolyn, on June 5, 1964, after meeting her at Bethany Nazarene College. They spent 60 wonderful years together. Of all his roles in life, being a husband, dad, and “Pepa” were his proudest titles. Don was deeply cherished by his two daughters, Pam (Danny) Martin and Donna (Greg) Sheffer; his four grandsons, Jacob Martin, Josh (Abbi) Martin, Kale Sheffer, and Rowen Sheffer; and his brand-new great-granddaughter, Sadie Jane Martin.
Don’s life was a melody of love and joy, punctuated by his deep passion for music. He especially loved singing in the church choir, where his voice uplifted many. His quick wit, infectious smile, and lighthearted humor made him a delight to be around. Don was known for his harmless pranks, always revealing his mischievous grin when his playful schemes were uncovered.
A true master craftsman, Don used his gifts and talents to build a thriving roofing business in the Kansas City region. As a fair-minded businessman, he pursued the highest quality of work, viewing his craft as a service to God. Don took great pride in his work and the good it provided to thousands of homeowners over the years. His dedication to excellence was a reflection of his faith and a testament to the values he upheld in every aspect of his life.
An avid fisherman, Don loved spending time on the lake and sharing his delicious fried crappie with hundreds of family and friends. But more importantly, he was a fisher of men, leading many to Jesus and serving as a devoted prayer warrior throughout his life.
Don’s life was marked by his unwavering generosity, steadfast faith, and commitment to his family, friends, and church. He was a faithful servant, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
A Celebration of Life for Don will be held on January 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Garrett Chapel, located at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 East Sheridan, Olathe, Kansas 66062.
