Edith Jean Hanley, a beloved and cherished member of the Olathe, Kansas community, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on August 4, 1932, in Alma, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Otto Carl Manes and Winnie Edith (Blake) Manes.
Edith attended Alma High School in Alma, Arkansas. Throughout her life, she was known for being compassionate, devoted, generous, hard-working, kind-hearted, and thoughtful. She dedicated her career to working as a clerical secretary in a doctor's office. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life as she was a past President of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in the state of Kansas and an active member of both the VFW and the American Legion Post #153 in Olathe, Kansas, where she organized and regularly attended Bingo events.
Edith deeply enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Norman Shryock, two brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by her children: Raymond Shryock of Fulton, Colorado; Kevin Shryock and his wife Sharon of Olathe, Kansas; Randall Shryock of Olathe, Kansas; Marilyn Toft and her husband Steven of Olathe, Kansas; and Michael Hanley of Edgerton, Kansas. She leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
