Evelyn Mae Bates was called home on October 25, 2022 in her home, at the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 86. Her soul will continue on living through her adoring family and friends. Evelyn was a caring and lovable woman who, throughout her lifetime, devoted herself to Christ and the people around her.
Evelyn was born on August 5, 1936 to John F. Cartwright and Maude E. Cartwright of Olathe, Kansas. She attended Olathe public schools through her childhood and adolescent years. On March 8, 1957 she married the love of her life, Prentis R.B. Bates and their beautiful matrimony lasted for 65 years until he preceded her in death.
Throughout her life, she worked wherever Prentis was stationed as a United States Marine. She held various lines of work from mail sorting, cashier associate, billing clerk and independently cleaned homes for several clients for many years. Overall, she was a wonderful house wife to Prentis, and she was honored to have raised her great niece, Ashley (Cartwright) Williams as if she were her own.
For many years, Evelyn belonged to Full Faith West church in Lenexa, Kansas. Evelyn was also a family oriented woman and dedicated her love towards her family members. Evelyn was loved by all who knew her. She will truly be missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Prentis R.B. Bates, father, John F. Cartwright Sr. and mother, Maude E. Cartwright, sisters (eldest-youngest): Margaret Lattimore, Ethel Clay, Martha King, Alzada Adams, Betty Wilkes, Jean Miller and Barbara Cartwright. As well as her brothers (eldest-youngest): John Cartwright, Jr. , Gerald Cartwright, and Charles Cartwright. Evelyn is survived by her two brothers; Earl Cartwright (Jimmie) and Clifford Cartwright (Arnita) and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, great nephews, great nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
Funeral graveside service 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022 in Leavenworth National Cemetery 150 Muncie Rd. Leavenworth, Kansas. Visitation 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. followed by a prayer service on Tuesday morning at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas.
