He was born in Kansas City, MO to George and Rosemary Stump, the eldest of 7 children: Bill Stump, Mary Ann (Stump) Cassidy, Jim Stump, John Stump, Tom Stump and Regina (Stump) Schneider.
The children grew up sharing wonderful and wild times on 23rd street and loved being together as a family.
George became deeply interested in his faith and education and focused hard on both. He devoured books, maps and consumed historical knowledge. George graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1963. He then took a year off to discern the priesthood at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver with a degree in Theology. Realizing he felt called to have a family he embarked on a new path with U.S. Navy in 1968. Loving his time traveling he especially adored his time stationed in Honolulu. Before being honorably discharged he received the National Defense Medal. George graduated from Washburn University. He had a degree in Accounting and Business.
From a previous marriage he had a stepdaughter Michelle (Welch) Ruwart, whom he kept in contact with throughout his life.
He then met Eleanor Chapman through the mutual friendship of his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann & Michael Cassidy. They fell madly in love and were married in 1984. George and Elly had two children Heather Stump of St. Louis and Lawrence Stump of St. Paul MN. who were the light of their lives together. Elly contracted ALS and lost her life to it in 1995. After Elly’s passing Mike and Mary Ann offered consistent support for years to come. They lived in Mulvane, Kansas where George was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel parish as a lecture and cherished being a part of that community.
In his later years he found a new calling and was a para at Rosehill High School in Rosehill Kansas. Where he shaped the character of countless students who remember him not just as a teacher but as a guide and a mentor.
Despite his many serious rolls in life he was will be fondly remembered as a jokester and one who always had a quick quip comeback.
George spent the remaining years of his life back home in Kansas City, staying close with his sister Regina who helped support George along with Mary Ann and his brothers his brothers John, Jim and sister-in-law Linn in his remaining years.
