Iva Mae McCullough, 84, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she knew.
Iva was born on November 27, 1938 in Greene County, Missouri to Marion Carl and Leone Margaret {Keeler) Batson. She attended and graduated Class of 1956 from Van Horn High School in Maywood, Missouri. After graduation in the month of July she met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) McCullough. On December 14, 1956 they were married. Together they raised their five children, Brenda, Phil, Theresa, Twila and Mark.
Iva enjoyed spending time with her family, but nothing gave her more pleasure in life than the time she spent with her grandchildren. Iva enjoyed reading her Bible, fiction books, and romance novels. She also enjoyed spending time working on her word search books and crossword puzzles. Iva enjoyed playing softball and was a good pitcher. She is most remembered for her devotion to serve the Lord through teaching Sunday School, Children's Church and leading music in Children's Ministry and camp settings. Also, she sang and played the piano and used her creativity in decorating classrooms and bulletin boards for church. She will be sadly missed by all.
Iva is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Leone Batson, brother Robert Duane Batson, son-in-law Rob Sewell, grandsons Devin Sewell, Nathan Sewell and great grandson Tanner McCullough. Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-six years Eugene (Gene) McCullough of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Brenda Denise Adkins and her husband Lynn of Spring Hill, Kansas, son Phillip Charles McCullough and his wife Joyce of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Theresa Ann Broadway and her husband Rick of Alma, Arkansas, daughter Twila Ruth Sewell of Nevada, Missouri, son Mark Andrew McCullough and his wife Carol of Ottawa, Kansas. Iva is also survived by her one sister Mary Alice Kontoulas and her husband Mike of Florida.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her eleven grandchildren Sarah, Ben, David, Cara, Laura, Bryan, Perry, Corey, Hannah, Josh, Julie and twenty-seven great grandchildren Tim, Miriam, Gage, Knox, J.R., Jude, Isaac, Rylee, Jax, Sienna, Allica, Mason, Alrik, Gareth, Kellan, Weston, Cameron, Caleb, Cade, Carson, Chase, Carter, Jack, Willow, Dani, Aaron and Christopher.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas. Visitation 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
