With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Lucinda L Smith, a member of the Olathe, Kansas community, who passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 92.
Lucinda was born on July 13, 1933, in Montezuma, Kansas, one of six children to Harry and Lizzie Koehn. “Cindy,” as she was known by her family and friends, attended Montezuma Public School. She later married Ramon Smith of Joplin, Missouri, on July 25, 1954, in Montezuma, Kansas. They later moved to Olathe, KS, where they raised their family and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
A hard-working and kind-hearted individual, Cindy dedicated much of her life to her family and community. Cindy was also a devoted homemaker, raising her three children with love and care. However, once the children were in school, she worked as a Title Examiner in Johnson County for over 20 years, retiring in 2003. Her faithfulness was evident in her long-standing membership at the First Christian Church of Olathe, where she served as an Elder for several years.
Cindy had a passion for cooking and hosting dinners for her family and friends. Cooking was her love language – every dish prepared with patience, tradition, and a generous dash of creativity. She was an excellent seamstress and had a keen eye for design. Her enthusiasm for design revealed her artistic soul. Cindy also enjoyed tending to her gardens, finding joy in the beauty of her blooms.
Cindy is survived by her children, Debra Brown (Paul), Denise Rhoads, and Mark Smith (Roberta), two siblings, Fossie Haley, and Steve Koehn (Yvonne). Her grandchildren include Dave Brown, Ben Brown (Kahla), Jake Brown, Pete Brown (Paige), Amanda McDonald (Ryan), and Dustin Smith (Kaitlyn). The youngest generation consists of Samantha McDonald, Ethan McDonald, Scarlett Smith, Sheperd Smith, Grace Smith, and Peyton Brown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon, son-in-law, Kevin Rhoads, and three brothers, Loid Koehn, Lowell Koehn, and Clifford Koehn.
Above all, Cindy was devoted to her family and friends. She gave freely of her time, her talents, and her heart. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love touched all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 20th, at the First Christian Church, 200 E. Loula, Olathe, KS, and a reception at the church will follow. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to First Christian Church's Abiding Memorial Fund.
