Omaira was born December 12, 1931 in her beloved Caracas, Venezuela to the late Italo Fossi Pacnini and Carmen Bordones de Fossi.
A loving mom and devoted grandmother, Omaira found pleasure in the day-to-day little things. She was happiest surrounded by her grandchildren and family pets, Jack and Cleo. Omaira started each day with a café con leche, watching the trees and birds from the deck before diligently approaching daily chores, she enjoyed keeping busy and active. She spent much of her time in the kitchen, as she loved to cook. Her guacamole was nearly as legendary as her quesillo.
She always had a smile and open heart for her daughter’s friends, who also called her ‘mom’. There are countless memories of Omaira feeding Yamelly’s elementary-school and college friends and making them laugh just as she would later for her grandkids. Entertaining friends was one of her great joys, as was being out and about the city.
As with any true ‘Venezolana’, you would never catch Omaira without makeup and hair properly done. As she would say, “No hay mujer fea sino mal arreglada!” (There are no ugly women, just poorly groomed!) She will be remembered for her inner beauty as a strong woman of faith with a generous smile and the best motherly hugs.
Omaira was a prayerful woman of strong, Catholic faith. Through hardship, difficulties and unbearable losses, Omaira steadfastly maintained her gratitude to the Lord for all His blessings. Our Lord mercifully called her home when she was ready to ease her battle with brain cancer after holding on long enough to receive visits from friends and family from across the country.
Omaira is survived by her sons, Roberto Osorio Fossi (Violeta de Osorio) and Leonel Duran of Caracas, Venezuela, her daughter, Yamelly Osorio-Weida of Overland Park, son-in-law Jason Weida, grandchildren Violeta Endrina, Roberto Alexis, Gabriel Alexander, Yadwill, Yalumair, Gregory, Isabella Grace, Andres Vicente, and Lucia Annalise, and her great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband Romulo Osorio Ruiz, and daughters Yajaira Coromoto Osorio and Yazmin del Rosario Osorio.
A visitation starting at 11:30 with Rosary at 12:10 and Mass at 12:30, followed by luncheon that will be held in celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers consider a donation in Omaira’s memory to Kansas City Hospice.
