A lifelong Jayhawk fan, Bob attended the University of Kansas on a ROTC scholarship. He spent a 26-year career in service to his country as a Marine Corp officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Shortly after his commission into the Marine Corps, he married his high school sweetheart, Brenda (Billings) Skaggs. Bob and Brenda were married 52 years. Upon his retirement, Bob dedicated his life to the service of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas and his Church, St. Francis Episcopal Church and then St. Michael and All Angels.
Throughout his adult life, Bob volunteered to assist people in need teaching his children the value of providing care and dignity to all people.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Colleen Skaggs, and his two sisters, Charlotte Skaggs and Joyce Kluth.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Skaggs. His daughter Colleen Helm and her wife Kris Helm, and his son Matthew Skaggs and his wife Manu Millier-Skaggs. Bob was the proud PaPa of 11 grandchildren: Mikaela, Ray’Shaun, Lana, Rai’Onna, I’Veyon, LaNiyah, Dominick, Jazmyn, Silas, Chase and Zoe. He is also survived by his great grandson, Micah.
The family invites all that wish to honor Bob to attend services at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church 6630 Nall Ave. Mission, Kansas.Thursday afternoon, December 18, 2025 starting at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment in Olathe Memorial Cemetery 738 North Chestnut Street Olathe, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family requests that individuals donate to their favorite charity in the memory of Bob’s life of service.
