Scott was born on November 11, 1942, to Allen and Fern Spaulding in Kansas City, Missouri. Scott attended Paseo High School where he excelled in football and basketball. After he graduated from high school, he went to the University of Missouri — he was a lifelong Mizzou Tiger fan. Scott spent time in California after college working for the railroad before returning to Kansas City where he began a successful career in sales. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his co-workers and customers, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Scott met the love of his life, Yvonne, through their good mutual friend, J.W. Jones. Scott and Yvonne were married on June 15, 1968. They went on to have four kids: Jay, Marcy, Patrick, and Megan. Scott instilled the importance of work ethic, generosity, and humor into his children. He valued family more than anything, especially his wife, children, and ten grandchildren. He loved being surrounded his family: attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events, playing board games, going on camping and canoe trips, watching his favorite sports teams (and attending Royals’ games), eating Kansas City barbeque, and simply spending time with them. Scott was always blessing everyone with his generosity and great sense of humor.
Scott leaves behind the love of his life, Yvonne (Attaway), their children: Jay (Julie), Marcy Teasley (David), and Megan Barrow (Scott); grandchildren: Brennan, Mackenzie, Courtney, Bradley, Amanda, Kayla, Emerson, Jadyn, Teagan, and Dylan. He is also survived by his sister Marcia Larson (Rick) and by his nieces, Emily and Katie, and many close family members and friends. He was predeceased by his son Patrick, who passed away in 2009, and by his parents Allen and Fern. Scott’s parents passed away when was a young adult and Yvonne’s family graciously took him in as one of their own.
A memorial service will be held in Scott’s honor on Monday, December 27th, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula Street, Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the service and a reception.
