

Thelma Inez (Hobson) West, 88, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 30, 2022. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to everyone she knew.
Thelma was born on September 16, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri to Floyd Edward and Thirsey Moore (Hiatt) Hobson. She attended and graduated from Secretarial school in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Oscar D. West III on May 20, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at Business Man Assurance (BMA) and Bitsies in Stanley, Kansas. Thelma was a homemaker who managed the home as well as assisted with our family farm and animals.
Thelma was a people person who often referred to the Dale Carnegie course she took as inspiration to learn about the people she met. She enjoyed keeping up with her many friends, including but not limited to: her ‘Buddies’ group from her USO days, her friends from TOPS, church friends and family friends.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, and taking pictures.
She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd & Thirsey Hobson. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Oscar D. West III of the home, daughter Carolyn Hickey, and her husband, Colin, of Rockwall, Texas, and son Oscar D. West IV and his wife, Kara, of Wellsville, Kansas. Left behind to cherish her memory are her 4 grandchildren, Oscar Dunreath West V, Dwight West, Katelyn West and Alexander Hickey.
As a farmer’s wife the list of pets and animals cared for would be lengthy, but a few highlights would include KitKat, Lady, Remington, Buddy, Princess, Liberty, and Champ.
Thelma was cremated according to her wishes. An Inurnment will take place at 9:00 a.m. Saturday July 2, 2022 in Pleasant Valley Cemetery 9501 South 159th Street Overland Park, Kansas. At the request of the family, everyone please wear the color purple, that was Thelma's favorite color.
