Carolyn Massey Vowell, 81, passed away June 22, 2017 at McKendree Village in Hermitage following complications of Alzheimers. She leaves her husband of 59 years Joe R. Vowell, son David Vowell and his spouse John Ricks of Old Hickory, daughter Vicki Garrett and her companion Mike Woodward of Nashville; and her best friend Bobbie Sullins (Carol) of Gallatin, TN. Born in Monoville TN to the late David and Gladys Massey, Carolyn was raised in Carthage TN. A graduate of Smith County High School and Tennessee Tech University, Carolyn later worked for Avco Corporation and Watkins Institute in Nashville, but spent the majority of her life dedicated to rearing her two children. A memorial will be held June 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN. Pastor Doug Carlin will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made the Alzheimer’s Association, 4825 Trousdale Dr. #220, Nashville, TN 37220.
