

Charles K. Davis, Jr., PE (Charlie), 95, of Donelson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Born in Montclair, NJ, Mr. Davis grew up in Fairfield, CT, where he met his future wife. Mr. Davis earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Bridgeport after enlisting in the Army Air Corps and serving for three years during World War II. He married his wife Dorothy on October 16, 1945.
Mr. Davis worked in the engineering department of the DuPont Company for 36 years at various sites in Connecticut, Delaware, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Tennessee. He earned his professional engineering license from the state of Tennessee in 1961 and retired from the Old Hickory, TN plant in 1985.
Mr. Davis was a member of the First Church Congregational in Fairfield, CT and Andrew Price United Methodist Church in Donelson, TN. During his teenage years he was active in Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Explorers. He later became interested in gardening, his computer, tracking the weather, staying in touch with family and friends, and listening to music.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Hatch Davis, parents Bertha Buscher Davis and Charles K. Davis of Fairfield, CT, sisters Roberta Louise Massey of Birmingham, MI and Dorothy Davis Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL, twin brother William R. Davis of Old Saybrook, CT, mother-in-law Helen Shaw Hatch of Concord, NH, father-in-law Rev. David P. Hatch of Dover, NH, sisters-in-law Kay Hatch of Alfred, ME and Mary Hatch of Kennebunk, ME, brothers-in-law Dr. Robert P. Hatch of Alfred, ME and John W. Hatch of Boston, MA, daughter-in-law Cindy Dodd Davis of Waverly, TN., and great-grandson Kevin Harbin of Old Hickory, TN. He is survived by daughter Cathy Myers (James) of Oakway, SC, sons Dave Davis (Patty Bacon) of Smithville, TN and Chuck Davis (Jan) of Waverly, TN, sisters-in-law Sylvia Hatch Mealand of Cornwall, PA and Martha Hatch Bancroft of Waltham, MA, brother-in-law Geoffrey C. Mealand of Cornwall, PA, granddaughters Cheryl Betty (Eric) of Old Hickory, TN, Melissa Paris (Willie) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Kelly Kavanaugh (Mike) of Old Hickory, TN, and Kira Davis of Venice, CA, grandsons Andy Myers (Cindy) and Mitch Myers of Oakway, SC, great-grandchildren Deana Spruill of Old Hickory, Drew and Lola Myers of Oakway, SC, six step-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
The family wishes to express love and appreciation to Mrs. Patty Kirby of Hermitage, TN for her many years of friendship and care for our father.
Family members and close friends will celebrate Mr. Davis’s life with a private memorial service at his home at a date to be determined. His remains will be cremated and placed in a mausoleum beside his wife Dorothy at Heritage Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 78625, Nashville, TN 37207.
