

David Thomas Whitefield, age 76, died September 23, 2016. Mr. Whitefield is preceded in death by his parents A. C. & Flora Whitefield of Gainesboro, TN. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Dr. Anne Whitefield; daughters Rachel Hallums, Gini Warmath and Sara Northcutt; sons Joe and Bill Whitefield;
brother Dr. Conrad (Sylvia) Whitefield; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Whitefield moved to Donelson as a child and attended Donelson High School where he served as president of his class all four years. He played varsity basketball and football. He was a graduate of David Lipscomb College where he also served as president of his class for each year there. As student body president, he was proud to have brought the Bison statue to the campus where it still stands today. He was a graduate of University of Memphis School of Law. Mr. Whitefield was an attorney who retired from the State of Tennessee after thirty years of service. During his career in state government, he served the offices of Comptroller of Treasury, State Treasurer and Attorney General.
Mr. Whitefield was a long time member of Donelson Church of Christ where he served as an Elder until he and Anne relocated to Lebanon where they attended College Hills Church of Christ.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 2 pm until 5 pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 26 at Hermitage Funeral Home with Brother Kevin Owen and Brother Bob Hendren officiating. Following services, interment to be held at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
