He served honorably in the USMC in Vietnam from 1970-72 and earned Nat’l Def. Srv. & Good Conduct medals and an M-14 Rifle Sharpshooters Badge. Gene was a builder extraordinaire: 5 hotels, mall shops, custom homes, barns, a windmill and candy store; upper room sanctuaries, artist studio lofts and an old farm house; historical redevelopment: Magnolia Station and Old City Park (Dallas, TX) and Fairvue Plantation house (Gallatin, TN). He was superintendent of all buildings at Fairvue Plantation Golf Course.
He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle giant to his family and friends. He was known and respected for his skill, quick wit, discipline, honor and integrity. He loved his wife, family and friends— humbly serving all without expecting anything in return. He and his wife travelled throughout the United States visiting little towns, down country roads. He was a peacemaker and man of few words but many actions. He loved the Lord. He will forever have a place in our hearts.
