During this event, “Sarge” met with his wife and sons, he told them how brave and fearless their father was. He bragged to his wife about how he was always the first on the front line and never hesitated to take a mission. Daily, he carried with him since his return from Vietnam, a coin with an inscription from Isaiah 54:17 "no weapon formed against me shall prosper", promising that no weapon or accusation against God's people will succeed, and they will be vindicated. He retired from Athens Paper Company in 2001. He loved life, was a proud veteran, an avid bowler, and a passionate coin collector. It should also be mentioned he had an extreme love for coffee, anything sweet, and all sports with a special love for the University of Michigan Wolverines.
