Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Howard Wayne Allen, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on October 19, 2024, at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, Judy Allen, his daughter, Kim Felts (Richard), his grandchildren Jansen Carver (Hannah), Olivia Carver, Lorin Brown (Brad) and Madisyn Butler (Chad) and great grandchildren Claire and Mac Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Kathleen Mattingly.
Howard was born on October 13, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky. He spent important teenage years at Boys Haven in Louisville. He spent four years from 1956 to 1960 serving our country in the Air Force where he was stationed around the world including Iwo Jima, Japan, and Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee. During that time, Howard met Judy in Nashville, Tennessee and they were happily married November 26, 1959. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of sixty-five years. Howard spent his career in the trucking industry and retired from Roadway Express after thirty years.
Howard was loved by all. He most loved spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He never missed a school or sporting event. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and traveling with Judy. He will be dearly missed by all.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends at Hermitage Funeral Home on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Following this gathering, there will be a Celebration of Howard's Life in the Tulip Grove Chapel at the funeral home at 1:00 PM with Rev. John Grant officiating. Derek Carver, Bruce Clark, Bobby Dial, Adrian Franklin, Andy Presley, Allen Sharpe, Garrison Sharpe, and Anderson Sharpe will serve as Pallbearers. Following the service, Howard will be laid to rest in the Garden of the Cross at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boys & Girls Haven in Louisville, Kentucky (boysandgirlshaven.org).
