

Jim was born on February 5th, 1939 in Gainesboro TN. to Letcher Gee Emerton and Martha Bell Scott Emerton. He was the third born child of nine.
Jim spent his life working in the solid waste business as a front-end loader driver. He was known in the business for his strong work ethic and his commitment and pride in his work.
Jim was an avid collector of pocket knives, rare coins, and toys. He was known for his love for his family and his adventurous personality traveling back home to the country and to the Smokey Mountains. He loved bluegrass music and festivals.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Emerton, his daughter Tonya Emerton, his son Keith Emerton (Christina), grandson Hunter, granddaughters Hope, Taylor, Kenzie and Kaelyn, two great-grandchildren Nova and Sylas, his brothers Ray, Ralph, and Billy and his sister Evelyn.
He is preceded in death by his father Letcher, his mother Martha, his sister Mildred, and his brothers Lonnie, Thurel, and Joe.
Visitation will be held at Hermitage Funeral Home in Hermitage, TN on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm with the funeral and burial services immediately following.
