Jean Philbrick Hudgins

1934-2024

Hendersonville, TN – Jean Hudgins, 90, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024. Jean was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine to Percy Philbrick and Gertrude Philbrick. She and her 10 siblings grew up on a farm and attended Fort Fairfield High School. Later in life she earned a degree in biblical studies from a bible college Tulsa, OK. Jean raised her three children Peter, Beth, and Susan in West Springfield, MA.

Years later Jean moved to Middle TN to follow her daughters as they grew families of their own. She soon after met Dr. Jim Hudgins who she married after a short and joyous engagement. Jean was a remarkable grandmother to the children God put in her life - hosting family meals, sleepovers, and cousin hangouts.

Jean loved her family and served them with everything she had. Late into her life, she was still offering to do laundry, move furniture, take care of the toddlers, or even mow her grandchildren’s lawn with a push mower. She was tough, strong, and quick to lend a hand.

Above all else, Jean had a deep, meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord, was dedicated to studying the word of God, covered her family in prayer daily, and was happy to talk about her beliefs with anyone.

Jean will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters Susan Smallwood and Beth Beasley and her stepdaughter Jennifer Reed. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Jim Hudgins, her son Peter Simpson, her two stepsons Jeff Hudgins and Jonathan Hudgins.

Jean is also survived by her beloved grandchildren – Mary, Katelyn, Paul, Jacob, Jordan, Forbes, Caroline, Abigail, Patrick, Michaela, Claire, Ian, and Elliott.

Visitation Saturday from 12pm to 2pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. Celebration of life will be held 2pm Saturday at Hermitage Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Family serving as Pallbearers.
