

Mrs. Lois V Dowless, age 91, of Hermitage, TN took her eternal heavenly rest on Wednesday May 13, 2026. surrounded by her children. Mrs. Dowless was born in Carthage Tennessee on December 25, 1934, as the second child of eleven. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Winfred Dowless in Nashville TN. They immediately moved to NC where they worked hard a started their family. After several years, they moved back to Nashville and continued their careers and raising their family. Mrs. Dowless was a bookkeeper for many years. Her favorite and most rewarding position as a bookkeeper was with the Tennessee Association for Retarded Citizens (TARC). In that capacity, she was able to build meaningful relationships with several former Clover Bottom residents. As her passion for this ministry grew, she co-founded and co-taught a Sunday School class specifically for these students at her former church.
Mrs. Dowless never missed an opportunity to share her faith with others. She lived her life with a servant heart. She was proudly married to her sweetheart for 51 years. She faithfully cared for her husband for many years after a stroke left him partially disabled. She was a faithful member of the Hermitage Hills Baptist Church in Hermitage TN, where she continued to serve children with Special Needs. She also served in the community outreach program, where she ministered to those in need.
Mrs. Dowless was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her children, grandchildren and great grandson are left to cherish her beloved memory. She is preceded in death by her parents: Hershel and Vola Vaughn. Her Husband: Winfred Dowless. Brothers: Alton Vaughn and Dwight Vaughn. Sisters: Annette Tinnin, Faye Barnett, Eunita Lee, and Martha Cummings. She is survived by her Son: Graham Dowless. Daughters: Kim Montgomery (Mark) & Patty Robertson (Mike). Grandchildren: Wayne Robertson, Briana Robertson, Holly Montgomery, & John Dowless (Caitlin). Great Grandson: Noah Dowless, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Services will Be held at Hermitage Funeral Home on Monday May 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm pm with Dr. Poly Rouse officiating. Interment to be held at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with family & friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation with family 4-8 pm on Sunday May 17, 2026 and Monday May 18, 2026 at 12 pm.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Kempton of Hermitage for the extraordinary care they provided in her final days. They would also like to thank her church family at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church for their continued love and support.
