Dr. Robert William Guth, a cherished and devoted soul, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on November 26, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Guth's life was marked by his patient nature and a profound dedication to his family, friends, and community.
Dr. Guth was raised in Chicago, where he laid the foundation for his esteemed career. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, followed by a medical degree from Rush Medical College. His medical journey continued with a residency at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, where he was honored with the "Resident of the Year" award, a testament to his commitment to medicine. Following his education, he and Carol married and moved to Tennessee.
A resident of Old Hickory, Tennessee, Dr. Guth was a member of the Saint Stephens Catholic Community. His life was enriched by his marriage to Carol, his loving wife of thirty-eight years. Together, they built a family that included their son, Ben, and a network of beloved relatives and friends.
Dr. Guth's personal interests were as varied as they were passionate. He loved being a doctor and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football. His leisure time was filled with activities such as boating, grilling, woodworking, and tinkering around the house. He and Carol traveled extensively throughout their marriage, which brought joy and adventure to his life.
Family was at the heart of Dr. Guth's existence. He is survived by his loving wife Carol, his son Ben, his brother Jim Guth, and his sister Susan Hinds. Preceding him in death were his father, William Robert Guth, his mother, Delores Antionette Guth, and his sister, Diane Carey Davis. Dr. Guth also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will carry forward his legacy of love and care.
Dr. Guth's life was defined by wonderful relationships with his in-laws, friends, nephews, nieces, and patients. They meant everything to him. He loved well and was well-loved, leaving a legacy that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a time of visitation with the family on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Catholic Community, 14544 Lebanon Road, Old Hickory (615) 758.2424. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM with Father Patrick Fitzsimmons officiating.
