Ginny was a graduate of Lebanon High School where she was a member of the 4-year Honor roll, a member of the Beta Club and was queen of her Senior Prom. She attended Cumberland University, where she was elected “Miss Personality” in her Freshman year and was in the Cynthian Society, The Acapella Choir and The Little Theatre Guild, where she performed numerous plays, a highlight of which was her role as Maria in the Shakespearean play 12th Night. She was one of the Football Queens in her sophomore year and was “Miss Wilson County” of 1948. She was married in Baird Chapel of Cumberland University. She later graduated from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
She was active in First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Circle Leader, Bible Leader, and served on various committees. She was a member of the YMCA Foundation Board, serving as Secretary and Vice President. She served on the Metropolitan Parks and Board Committee. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of Cumberland University.
Ginny was a member of Belle Meade Country Club. She was a life member of the Nashville Symphony Guild, Cheekwood, Nashville Ballet Society, Friends of Children’s Hospital, Fannie Battle, Ladies Hermitage Association, The Round Dozen Book Club, Vanderbilt Aid, Peabody Aid, Belmont Aid, and a sustaining member of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
She valued education and contributed to the education of each of her children and grandchildren. When her children attended Peabody Demonstration School, she completed an early childhood education degree across the street at Peabody College, driving herself and her six children back and forth from Hermitage, pre-interstate.
Ginny is survived by her children: Bill Freeman (Babs), Rebecca Freeman, Beth Moore (David), Babs Freeman-Loftis (Tom), Brenda Freeman (Jeff Jones) and Bonnie Endsley (Tim); 15 grandchildren, Bob Freeman (Rachel), Harvey Freeman, Michael Freeman (Kim), Marcie Allen Van-Mol (Derek), Laura Flippo (Bryant), Robert Cade, Will Cade (Sophie), Ginny Buddenberg (Andrew), Catherine Moore, Nathan Loftis, Maggie Loftis (Daryl Cooley), Matthew Loftis (Kim), Truman Endsley (Kirsten Wessel), Harry Endsley (Quaylynn), Rachel Endsley; nine great-grandchildren; her brother Bob Gammons, her sister-in-law Mary Criswell Freeman, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family is appreciative and grateful for the tender and devoted care provided by her many loving caregivers, our “Band of Angels,” Alive Hospice, the caring staff at Richland Place Health Center, and her physician Dr. Benjamin Hill.
There will be a private graveside service for family on Friday, with a celebration of life gathering at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to YMCA or charity of choice.
