Carlene was born October 16, 1946 in Putnam, CT. The daughter of Lionel & Stella Bourque Desautels. She attended St Mary’s School, Putnam Catholic Academy and Annhurst College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in History & Social Studies.
In 1967 she married Thomas Landry, also of Putnam, and in 1970 they moved to Old Lyme, CT with their daughter Lauren. While living in Old Lyme they had two additional children Brian & Gregg. Carlene was predeceased by Brian who passed away in 1998.
Carlene spent several years raising her children before becoming a teacher at St Joseph’s School in New London, CT. While teaching there she attended night school at St Joseph University in West Hartford, CT achieving a Master of Science degree in Special Education.
After receiving her degree Carlene accepted a teaching position in the New London public school system and taught special education at both Harbor and Winthrop Schools. She really enjoyed teaching special education to many underprivileged children and over the years saw that her efforts made a significant difference in many of her student’s lives. She retired from teaching in 2000.
Every summer Carlene & family would move to their summer home on Alexander’s Lake in Dayville, CT where she would spend many happy days swimming, boating and relaxing. She also enjoyed traveling and camping. Carlene also had many hobbies including ceramics, crocheting, jewelry and basket making.
Carlene is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Landry, daughter Lauren Landry of Canterbury, CT, son Gregg Landry and wife Lori of Old Lyme, CT, grandchildren Alexander, Charlotte & Grant Wojcik, Brianna, Brenden, and Logan Landry, her sister Alma Morey and husband James of Putnam, CT and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday February 6th from 2-4 PM at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln. Old Lyme, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 7th at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, Providence St. Putnam, CT.
