He was born on July 23, 1919, in Hartford, and went to school in Old Lyme.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as an ambulance driver in England, France and Germany. He was employed as a home improvement salesman.
Mr. Shay is survived by his wife Marguerite E. Shay; his children Colette Shay of Niantic, Giselle Shay Chevallay of Newark, VT, Julie-Bianca Shay Grissom of New Orleans, Edward Marc Shay and Andrè-Pierre Shay, both of Lyme; and 8 grandchildren.
