John was born on January 13, 1961 in Middletown, CT the son of Charles and the late Margaret King. He graduated the Hammonasset School in Madison, CT in 1978. He married his wife, Lorrie, of Old Lyme, on August 13, 1983. He was employed for many years at Reynolds Garage and Marine in Lyme and the past four years at Island Cove Marina in Old Saybrook.
Many in town will remember him for his 25 years of service with the Lyme Fire Company and over 20 years as Lyme town constable. His life was largely focused on the things he valued most: his family, his friends, and his town. He was tremendously hard working at home and on the job, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He could easily make you laugh on your worst day or become your friend within minutes of meeting him. All of us lucky enough to have met him, have had our lives forever influenced by his bright, positive presence.
John is survived by his loving wife Lorrie, his daughter Michelle King of Denver CO, his son Matthew King of Boston MA, his brothers Charles King Jr. (Linda) of Boone NC and David King (Susan) of Lyme, his sisters Jane Buttinger (Ken) of Old Lyme, Anne King (Mark) of Sugarloaf Key FL and Susan King (Lisa) of Chester, along with several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Jon, Keith, Tom, Gerry, Griff, Jan, Faith, and Alison.
