She was born in New Britain, CT to Roger and Lillian (Griffin) Gibson on August 31, 1938.
She graduated from New Britain High School in 1956 and married Norman Stitham at St. Maurice Church in New Britain May 23, 1959. He survives her. She is also survived her brother John Gibson and his wife Lorraine (McCormack) Gibson.
A former resident of Plainville, CT. for 43 years, she was blessed with 4 children who survive her: Deborah (Stitham) Johnson (Jay), Linda (Stitham) Bouchard (Dan), Stephen Stitham and Kathleen (Stitham) Langton (Peter); 5 grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
She was employed by DATCO Transportation in Plainville for 27 years, driving school children, children with mental challenges and senior citizens.
Very active in the Plainville community, she was Past President of The Women’s Club, very active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Friends of Plainville Library, Heritage Wall Committee at the Library and The Historical Society. She was instrumental in organizing the original Toffolon School PTO in 1966.
She moved to her ancestral home at Point O’Woods Beach, South Lyme in 2006. Her ancestors were among the original founders of Point O’Woods community in 1919 that now includes 7 generations.
She is a member of the POW Women’s Club, and volunteers on many POW activities. An avid reader of over 100 books a year, that she shared with friends and neighbors, she was the motivation to establish the Point O’Woods Library by her family 18 years ago.
She was a member of Lyme Grange 146 where she was serving as a trustee and is the former secretary of the Lyme Grange. She is also very active with The Hamburg Fair, that is sponsored by the Grange.
In Old Lyme, she was a member of the former Old Lyme Grange 162 where she served as Secretary and volunteered for many charitable programs. She is also a member of The Old Lyme Historical Society. She was a lifelong Yankee Fan.
A special “Thank You” to all her doctors, nurses and aides, Middlesex Hospital and especially Bride Brook Rehab Center for all their loving care.
The Fulton Theroux Funeral Home of Old Lyme is assisting the family. Due to COVID-19, there will be no memorial service at this time.
