With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for his life, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bounthanh Souriyamath, on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the age of 90.
Bounthanh Souriyamath was born on Friday, April 15, 1936, in Ban Don Mo, Luang Prabang Province, Laos. He was the eldest son of Pothi Mae Channen Souriyamath and was raised alongside his four brothers and sisters.
After completing primary school, Bounthanh pursued his education in medicine at the Vientiane Medical College. He later joined the government until 1957, after which he led a group of 28 individuals to continue studying medicine.
In 1959, he married the love of his life, Chanh Ounheuan, with whom he built a beautiful life and family together. They were blessed with seven children: Mrs. Chathana Mangala, the late Mr. Thanongchit Sourignamath, Ms. Nitchathone Chaleunphone, Mrs. Thonomnu Phrommavanh, Mrs. Sourinthone Beebe, Mr. Thanousith Souriyamath, and Mr. Thanousinh Souriyamath. Through them, his legacy continued to grow with 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A devoted Buddhist, Bounthanh lived his life guided by wisdom, humility, honesty, and compassion. He believed true happiness was not found in wealth alone, but through education, hard work, self-respect, and living within one’s means. He taught his family to invest in themselves through knowledge, working honestly, spending wisely, and never envying others. To him, a peaceful heart and honorable life were the greatest forms of wealth.
Bounthanh found joy in gardening, spending time with his family, practicing prayer, sharing his wisdom, and orchestrating traditional Lao ceremonies and rituals that kept culture, faith, and family connected across generations.
His strength, guidance, humor and quiet generosity touched countless lives and will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Though we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind - one rooted in love, discipline, wisdom, faith, and kindness.
May he rest peacefully and continue his journey surrounded by light and serenity.
