

Edna was born on March 28, 1928, in Hartford, Connecticut, and grew up in Cromwell. She graduated from Middletown High School in Middletown, Connecticut. Throughout her life, she carried with her a strong sense of community, creativity, and dedication to those around her.
Edna was the proprietor of Forget Me Not Flower Shop in Centerbrook, Connecticut, where she shared her love of flowers and brought beauty into the lives of many. Her passion for gardening extended beyond her work—she found deep joy in tending her own gardens, nurturing both flowers and vegetables, and appreciating the changing seasons.
Old Saybrook held a special place in Edna’s heart. The shoreline, changing tides, and familiar coastal charm brought her comfort and inspiration. She was actively involved in the Old Saybrook Historical Society, where she shared her appreciation for the town’s rich history and heritage.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Haagensen, and her daughter, Bonnie Kotowski. She is survived by her three children, Linda English, Donna McGiveron, and Eric Haagensen; and her grandchildren, Andrew Freeburg, Eric Kotowski, and Hans Haagensen.
Known for her gentle spirit and thoughtful presence, Edna will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and deep appreciation for the world around her. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she cultivated, the lives she touched, and the enduring beauty of the places she loved.
A private remembrance will be held by loved ones. In honor of Edna, those who wish may consider planting something in their own garden—a small, living tribute to a life well tended and warmly remembered.
