

Lorraine J. Spahr was born in Springfield, MA on June 27, 1951, to Alfred and Jeannette Jalbert. Lorraine graduated from Classical High School in Springfield and then earned her Registered Nurse degree at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford. She joined the Army as a Nurse during the Vietnam era and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. She later earned her B.S. degree and continued her nursing career in hospital settings and private practice.
She then began a varied and successful career, at first in the financial and insurance industries, and later conducting medical investigations in cases of national significance, e.g., asbestos litigation.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie, and their two children, Zach and Sarah. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Marie, and her brother, Jerry and is survived by seven siblings, including Philip, Denise, Yvonne, Ronnie, Peter, John and Connie. She will best be remembered as a great mother, wife, friend and caregiver who had a wide-open heart, boundless enthusiasm for life and a great generosity of spirit.
Lorraine found pleasure in many activities including gardening, jewelry making, world travel and mixology (“Martini Mama”). She made the world a better place with every interaction. Her legacy will be one of joy, generosity and a source of inspiration for all who were lucky enough to have known her.
A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday, April 1st with military honors starting strictly at 12:10 pm, visitation hours will then continue until 4pm at Swan Funeral Home, located at 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, CT.
In lieu of flowers, Lorraine’s family asks that donations be made in her name to Wounded Warrior Project or to The Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries, two organizations she supported.
